SGM William H. Strickland, U.S. Army (retired)

    Funeral services with full military honors celebrating the life of SGM William H. Strickland, 91 will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Bill Stowell. Interment will follow in Forest Park St. Vincent Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Southside.

    William was born on June 19, 1918 in Florien, LA to John and Lenora Strickland. He passed away on January 25, 2010 in Shreveport, where he was a resident and member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Sunset Masonic Lodge #438, Scottish Rite Temple and the El Karubah Shrine Temple-Legion of Honor. William proudly served his country in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Sergeant Major, retiring after 20 years of service. He then worked 21 years for the U. S. Postal Service, Cedar Grove branch. After retirement, he worked as a Security Guard for the Shriners Hospital for 14 years.

    Preceding William in death were his parents; his wife, Jimmie Lee Strickland; brothers, Loy, Freeman, and Fred Strickland; sisters, Arlene Strickland, Doye Bradford, Shirley Brock, and Colene Anglin. He is survived by son, Michael Strickland; daughter, Tracie Lang and husband, Jason; grandchildren, Travis Nielsen, Stacie Nielsen, Joshua Lang, Zachary Lang and Madison Lang; great-grandchild, Aiyden Spinks; siblings, Robbie Peterson, Laverne Blackmon, Betty Jo Whittington and husband, Donald, Mary Lou McClung and husband, Weldon and Iva Lee Stewart and husband, Kenneth.

    Pallbearers will be Ron Denny, Burt Grubbs, Ed Dickens, Danny Adcock, Roy Wiley and Floyd Jones.

    A special thanks to the doctors and staff at Grace Home and Promise Hospital.

  Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
