Rena Mathews, the wife of the late Robert L. Mathews, Sr. passed away on May 3, 2009 in Knoxville, TN, after a sudden illness. She was born on December 2, 1926 in Lena, LA to Levi and Blanche Hillman. She was a retired insurance saleslady. Rena was a wonderful Christian lady that touched many lives and raised a loving family.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Rose-Neath’ Southside Chapel on Thursday, May 7, 2009. Officiating will be Rev. James Gass. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery.

    Rena was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Robert L. Mathews, Sr.; grandchildren, Maurice Wrigley, Rhonda House and James Mathews. Left to cherish her memory are sons, Robert L. Mathews, Jr. and wife, Yvette, Bill Shipp and wife, Paula and Johnny Lewis; daughters, Patricia McCullough, Yvette Deem and husband Michael and Rita Jones; sisters, Opal Denio and Margie Hunt; brothers, Leroy, William and J.T. Hillman; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and extended family members.

    Pallbearers will be Robert, Bill and Michael Mathews, Mark and Matthew Hay, and Jason McCoy. Honorary pallbearer is David McCullough.
