Funeral services honoring the life of Lessie Taylor Wood, 87, will be held at Thursday, April 9, 2009, 11:30 a.m. at Rose-Neath’s Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Cecil Marr. Soloist will be Delores Sullivan Dooley. Interment will follow in Bistineau Baptist Church Cemetery in Heflin, LA. Visitation with the family will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the funeral home.
Lessie was born on April 8, 1921 in Wyatt, LA. She passed away April 7, 2009 after a courageous battle, living life to its fullest, even with her very weak (but loving) heart. To know her was to love her. She was such a unique and feisty little lady. She was a member of Pinecroft Baptist Church, where she had many friends, as well as the retirement village where she lived. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Lessie was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Jennie Taylor; husband, Johnnie Robert Wood; sisters, Evaleen Dark and Florence Kelly; brother, James Taylor; grandson, Skip Barnhill and daughter-in-laws, Andrea Wood and Angela Weaver.
She is survived by son, Donald Wood; daughters, Vera Weaver and husband, Tommy, Diane La Farlette and husband, Bill; sister, Vergie Sullivan; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth, Shawn and Chase Barnhill, Robert Malone, Brad Warren and Micah Van Ness. Honorary pallbearers are Casey Jones, Kimm Weaver, and Joey Cook.
The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses of the Bradford House for the loving care given our loved one while under their care.
