Services for George Allen Tharpe, Jr., 71, will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20^th, at First Baptist Church Chapel. Officiating will be Ray Boswell and Dr. Greg Hunt of First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19^th, at Osborn Funeral Home.Allen was born on September 5, 1936, in Shreveport and passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2008, after a brief illness. He was a seven year veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of LA Woodcarvers and a deacon at First Baptist Church. Allen enjoyed helping others, and spending time cooking for family and friends.Allen was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth Tharpe and his sister, Nancy Kirk Tharpe. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pat Isbell Tharpe; one daughter, Nancy Pierson and husband, John, of Seattle, WA; one son, George Allen Tharpe, III and wife, Christine, of Shreveport; two granddaughters, Camille and Kate Tharpe; one sister, Betty Tharpe Shaw, of Denver, CO; and his beloved dog, Mac.Serving as pallbearers will be Dayton Waller, III, Barry Box, J. J.
