Dr. John Leroy Leopard, III

      Funeral Services for Dr. John Leroy Leopard, III will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010, 10:00 am in the Sanctuary of Brookwood Baptist Church in Shreveport, with Brother John Harp officiating.  Graveside services will follow at Centuries Memorial Cemetery.   The family will receive friends on Friday, January 29, at Roseneath Southside Funeral Home from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.    Dr. Leopard was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on June 30, 1927 and went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2010, following an extended illness.  He was a lifelong resident of Shreveport.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in WW II.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Centenary College in 1950, and his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine at New Orleans in 1954.  After interning at Confederate Memorial Hospital, he began private practice and continued to practice medicine until his retirement in 1998.  He was a staff member at Willis Knighton North and South.   He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice.     Dr. Leopard loved practicing medicine and treating his patients.  He held his passion for caring for others throughout his many years in practice, and he will be missed by all of his patients who loved him dearly.  He was acknowledged in 2004 for his 50 years of service in the practice of medicine.      He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. John L. Leopard, Jr.  He is survived by his wife Tommie; his sister Katherine Bicknell; his children, Sherry Orwig and her husband Calvin of Phoenix, AZ; John L. Leopard, IV and his wife Felis; Dr. Patrick B. Leopard and his wife, Cindy; Lee Ann Leopard; Jay L. Leopard and his wife Wendy of Hosston; and the mother of his children, Shirley Leopard.  He is also survived by Tommie’s children, Mike Rainer and wife Marian; Cindy Rainer; and Kirby Rainer and wife Laura; along with 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 4 nephews.     Honoring Dr. Leopard as pallbearers are his four nephews:  Dr. Ryan Bicknell, Dr. Eric Bicknell, Dr. Scott Bicknell, and Mr. Todd Bicknell and Tommie’s sons Mr. Mike Rainer and Mr. Kirby Rainer.  Serving as honorary pallbearers are:  Judge Harry Dan Sawyer, Dr. Randy Bryn, Mr. Thurman Smith, Mr. Ed Kneipp, Mr. James Hunter, Mr. Calvin Orwig, Mr. Dave Neal, and Mr. Terry Gustafson.      The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Randy Bryn.  Dr. Bryn was a special gift to the family over the last eleven years as he gave wonderful medical care.  His trust and love were true blessings. 

    In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
