Funeral services for David Self, 67, will be held, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Shreveport Baptist Temple, 288 Flournoy Lucas Road, Shreveport, LA, under the direction of Rose-Neath Southside. Officiating will be Brother Howard Hall, assisted by Brother Jimmy Price. Interment will follow in Old Union Cemetery, out of Mansfield, LA.

    The family will receive friends at the church, Friday, September 5, 2008, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., for visitation.

    David was born in Oil City, LA, March 7, 1941, to David and Evelyn Self. He passed away, into the arms of the Lord, September 2, 2008, in Houston TX, after a lengthy illness. He was a resident of Shreveport, where he was retired from AT&T as a machinist. He was a member of Shreveport Baptist Temple and David’s heart desire would be to see all of his family and friends reunited in Heaven.

    His parents, son, David Manuel Self, and father-in-law, Manuel Myers preceded David in death.  Left to cherish his memory, is his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Sue Self; daughter, Rebecca Lyle and husband, Tracy; sisters, Mary Bragg and husband, John, Wanda Beshea and husband, Dee, and Syble Solesbee; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and soon to be another; other extended family members, his church family and friends.

    Pallbearers will be Shannon Willis, Jason McArthur, Waymon Beshea, Wesley Beshea, Ronnie Wagnon and Jerry O’Glee. Honorary pallbearers are Cole Laird and Micah Rood.  

    In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Shreveport Baptist Temple in David’s name.
