David passed away May 31, 2009 at age 63 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Family and friends will participate in a mass in his honor at St. Michael’s Chapel behind St. John Berchmans Cathedral on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Officiating will be Monsignor J. Carson Lacaze.

    David served honorably in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1965 to 1971. He retired from Lucent Technologies in April 1997 after 30 years of employment.  David was very active in several computer clubs in Shreveport and Dallas serving in leadership and teaching roles.  He was a regular donor to Lifeshare Blood Center.

    Survived by his wife of 41 years, Francine, his daughters Chrissy Cockerham and husband Richard, Amy Free and husband Tony, his grandchildren Joseph, Jacob, Anthony, Cheyenne, and Madilyn, brother Nelson K. Huckabee Jr. and wife Mary, sister Mary Ann Rushing and husband Ray and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Nelson K. Sr. and Mary Ellen Huckabee. 

    The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Dhawan, Dr. Singh and their staff for their excellent care.  Special thanks to Christus Schumpert Highland and Grace Home for their loving care and support.

    In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Lifeshare Blood Center or Christus Schumpert Grace Home.
