Catherine Phoenell Lynch Gingles

    Funeral services for Catherine Phoenell Lynch Gingles will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 1204 Crabapple Dr., Shreveport, LA 71118. Officiating will be Rev. Tom Howe and Rev. Ellen Montegudo. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 13, from 5p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home Southside.

    Phoenell passed away on Mother’s Day May 10, 2009 after a brief illness. She was born on August 15, 1923 in Deatsville, AL to Wesley Otis Lynch, Sr. and Josie Catherine Stoudenmire. She graduated from Logansport High School and received a Bachelors degree from Louisiana Tech University and a Masters from Stephen F. Austin. Phoenell retired from teaching with Caddo Parish Schools.

    She and her late husband Buster enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada, especially trips to Alaska. They often took their grandchildren on trips and camping.

    Phoenell was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church and Joy Sunday School Class. She was a resident of Spring Lake Retirement Village where she was elected Mardi Gras Queen in 2008 and enjoyed playing bingo with the friends she made there.

    Her beloved husband, of 42 years, Claude “Buster” Gingles, parents,  brother, Rev. W.O. Lynch, Jr. and grandson, Jim Noel Hanson, preceded her in death. She is survived by sons, Claude Gingles and wife, Martha, Jimmy Hanson and wife, Mary, and Marty Gingles and wife, Debbie; daughters, Ella Burt, Fadra Towers, and Clair Dannhaeuser and husband, Charles; brother, Joseph Lynch and wife, Nancy. She was affectionately known as “Momma Nell” by her 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, also surviving her are her dearest friends, Hildred Justus, and Lucille Merrill.

  Pallbearers will be Wes Sutton, Buster Lee, Wes Lynch, David Lynch, Jen Courtney, Tim Bowie, Russell Hall and Danny Vernon.

    The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Spring Lake Retirement Village for their loving care and to Drs. Wen Liu and Paul Schuler for their vigilant care and concern.
