Funeral services will be held for C.E. "Ernie" Tyler, at 3 pm, on Saturday, August 16,2008, at First Baptist Church in Minden. Rev. Wayne DuBose and Rev. Bill Crider and Rev. Bill Ichter will officiate. Interment will follow at the Gardens of Memory cemetery. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Friday August 15, 2008, from 5 to 8 pm.

Ernie was born August 10, 1916 in Taylor Arkansas. He went to be home with the Lord August 13, 2008 in Minden.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years Hazel Bradley Tyler of Minden, daughters Marolyn Lasuzzo & husband Skeeter of Pottsboro, Texas, Rita Carrier & husband Barry of Bossier City, Mary Ann Newman & husband Dan of Benton, and Rala Tyler of Midlothian, Texas, sisters Marjorie Mims of Baton Rouge, and Kathryn Strong of Texarkana, Arkansas, brother Norman Tyler of Springhill, six grandchildren Holli Dixon and husband Phil, John Carrier and wife Amy, Kimbi Johnson and husband Chad, Tyler Rominger and husband McLeod, Kori Shurley and husband Scott, and Kaleb Newman, and twelve great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Ernie was a faithful member and greeter of First Baptist Church Minden, Minden American Legion, Minden Lions Club, Louisiana Teachers Association, NSU Alumni Association, Springhill Alumni Association. He was co-captain of 1939 Northwestern State University undefeated (ll-0) football team, coach and principal at Cotton Valley High School (1946-1968), principal of Richardson Elementary, Minden, Louisiana (1968-1971), supervisor of maintenance and transportation at Webster Parish School Board (1971-1978). He carried Olympic torch for the Winter Games (2002), and won numerous gold medals in Senior Olympics. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in WWII.
