| SHREVEPORT, LA - Mr. B. K. Temple, 89, a resident of Shreveport for 75 years, passed away at Christus Schumpert Medical Center on Monday, August 18, 2008, of a brief illness just five days short of his 90th birthday. A funeral mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20th, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.Mr. Temple was born in Minden, LA on August 23, 1918, to Felix and Becky Valandingham Temple. When in high school he moved with his family to east Texas where he completed high school, drove an ambulance and worked for a local funeral home. He enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII and served in the China Burma India Theater. An accident while loading freight cars in India left Mr. Temple paralyzed from the waist down and in doubt of ever walking again. After receiving the Purple Heart and recovering in a Calcutta hospital he returned. On May 19, 1945 he married Fayrine McPhee and walked down the aisle with his new bride. He was a longtime employee of United Gas Pipeline Co.Mr. Temple was a devoted family man who selflessly cared for his family. He was a man of great personal courage, a loyal follower of Notre Dame and an opinionated observer of politics, particularly of Louisiana politics which both amused and irritated him. Mr. Temple was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Fayrine McPhee Temple; his son, Kerry McPhee Temple of South Bend, IN; his daughter, Beverly Kenton Temple of Knoxville and Gatlinburg, TN; seven grandchildren, Casey and Ross Temple and Pike, Finn and Kinsey Temple and Derry and Erin O’Kane; and sister, Maribess Temple Stokes. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jos.
