Funeral services for Mr. A.J. Preston, 79, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Reverend Leonard Lindsey. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the funeral home.
Mr. Preston was born August 18, 1929 in Smackover, AR to Benjamin and Gertrude Preston. He passed away June 22, 2009 in Shreveport, LA. He worked for KCS Railroad for 37½ years. He served his country in the Korean War where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a loving husband to his wife Gladys of 48 years. He was a loving father and Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Leon Preston, Harold Preston, Frank Preston, Margaret Preston Erwin, and Junior Preston. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Gladys Hedges Preston; daughters, Candee Preston, Teena Preston Parkinson and husband Lawrence Parkinson, Jr.; grandchildren, Brandy Parkinson Purser and E4/ PO Christy Parkinson Viers and great-granddaughter, Madison T. Purser.
Pallbearers will be Chase Purser, Joshua Viers, Luis Flores, Jamison Hedges, Alan Davis, and Troy Fore.
